I decided long ago
Not to go to Ingo.
Where, deep beneath the pale green sea
All is wild and bold and free.

I decided long ago
Not to stray near Ingo.
Where the Mer surf currents strong
And the day is short, but also long.

I decided long ago
Not to talk of Ingo.
Where secrets lie buried in the sand
And all is allowed, except for land.

I decided long ago
Not to think of Ingo.
Lest I heard the Mermen cry,
“Come to us. Leave the Sky.”
A poem based on the book "Ingo" by Helen Dunmore. I haven't read the rest of the series but this poem just sort of came to me.
I figgure it's what Sapphire was thinking at the end of the book.

Edit: I've now read all the books but please keep the comments spoiler free for those who haven't. :)

For anyone who is interested there is another book called 'Stormswept' which is about Ingo but doesn't follow Sapphire and Connor.
